DIY Chalkboard & Marble Surface Prop using Summer Peach Berry Cobbler.
This week, I’ve got an easy DIY Chalkboard and Marble Surface Prop tutorial for you. As a food blogger, I’m always looking for new props to use in my food photography. I’ve gotten to a point where my kitchen counter, stainless steel table top, and coffee table are not enough for me. Since I love chalkboard platters and marble surfaces, I decided to create a DIY Chalkboard and Marble Surface Prop.

This prop is so easy and cheap to make, it’s ridiculous. You can find all of the necessary materials at your local hardware store or on Amazon. This DIY prop is great for close-up shots of your food and nobody will ever guess the prop is made with contact paper! I can’t wait to take tons of photos with my new prop. Get ready for a million posts with chalkboard and marble surfaces.

Directions

  1. Measure out and trim four 26″ long panels (2 each) of the contact paper. Remember to trim with the ruler on the inside of the line and your x-acto blade on the opposite side of ruler’s edge. If there are any trimming errors, they should happen outside of the panel you are trimming.
  2. Align the long edge of the first panel of chalkboard contact paper with the plywood panel and slowly pull off the backing as you smooth out all the air bubbles. Continue this process until the panel is fully adhered.
  3. Line up the long edge of the second chalkboard panel and repeat Step 2.
  4. Flip over the plywood board so the chalkboard side is placed down and run the x-acto knife along the edges of the board to trim the excess contact paper.
  5. Align the long edge of the first panel of marble contact paper with the plywood panel and slowly pull off the backing as you smooth out all the air bubbles. Continue this process until the panel is fully adhered.
  6. Line up the long edge of the second marble panel and repeat Step 5.
  7. Flip over the plywood board so the marble side is placed down and run the x-acto knife along the edges of the board to trim the excess contact paper.
  8. If there are any air bubbles under the contact paper, prick the air bubbles with a pin and release the air.

In other news, I’m sort of obsessed with this GENER8ION + MIA music video for The New International Sound, Pt. 2. It was directed by Inigo Westmeier and features the 36 000 students of Shaolin Tagou, the biggest fighting school for kids in China. I feel like every child in this video could kick my ass. Wait right here while I go to the gym and work off my inferiority complex…
